Cloud 9 Thursday

Hey guys! So yesterday at my PT appointment things went REALLY well! Dr. Jeff worked out both knots in my groin muscles and said everything felt really good. He was so happy to hear about my pain-free run yesterday. So today he wanted me to do the following workouts. Yes…there is supposed to be an “S” on the end of that word! Any doctor who assigns me multiple workouts in a day is definitely a doctor I like! hehe!

So this morning I was supposed to run 2 miles on the treadmill (as a warm-up) and the head outside for a 5 miler. Jeff said we needed to test my leg outside on uneven terrain. So test it I did! I ran my 2 mile warm-up @ 7.0 on the treadmill and then hopped out to pound the pavement. I got outside just as the sun was coming up. It is my favorite time to run…I love the smell of the morning. I know that sounds weird but the morning just smells good to me! haha…anyway the 5 miles went GREAT! I averaged about 7:50/pace and everything felt awesome. No knee pain at all but my groin was again a little tight but not as bad as yesterday.

Then Jeff wants me go to hot Yoga at 9:30 today with Hilary (okay by me!!) and upon leaving Yoga I am then headed to the pool for a 1 mile swim! Doesn’t this sound like the best day ever?! Can you tell I am over the moon excited! A great run (I am coming BACK, slowly but surely! But I am coming for you NYC! Make no mistake!)

So you guys know I am kind of an oatmeal freak! I am always creating new and improved versions. Have you missed them? Go here! Well I did another one! Cherry Pie Steel Cut Oats!

CHERRY PIE STEEL CUT OATS

  • 1 cup steel-cut oats
  • 4 1/2 cups water
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar, not packed
  • 1 Tbsp. french vanilla extract
  • 1 package frozen cherries

Add everything, except cherries, into crockpot. Cook on High for 4-5 hours, stirring often. Once finished stir in cherries and EAT! Makes: 6 cups (Keith and I usually get 8 servings out of this)

YUM! Breakfast of Champions!

Have you ever tried steel cut oats in the crockpot?

So completely random question: Do you have a potty mouth? I, will admit, that I definitely do. I curse way more than Keith does and I have truly tried multiple times to quit. It isn’t that am above cursing but I would like to be less of a “sailor” in my language faux pas. Any ideas? I am not saying that I am going to quit cursing all together but a little less would be nice and Keith would be so happy! haha!

Do you have a potty mouth? If so, are you good at controlling it?

  1. Yay for getting to run again! 🙂

I definitely have a potty mouth. They’re just words, and for me they’re a form of emphasis. I’ll never understand why people take it as personally offensive when someone uses a curse word (unless of course it’s directed at the person in the form of a fuck-you or something). Words are words, and unless they’re intended by the speaker to be offensive to you, they’re really only offensive if you choose to make them so. Someone a very, very long time ago who liked to control people decided some syllables were bad and blasphemous, and we’re STILL fussy about it and under that control. I read about one study that showed that cursing wasn’t only a reaction to pain (ie stubbing your toe) but it actually RELIEVED the pain. Which I can attest to being true, at least for me. Also, cursing is a good form of anger management. There’s nothing wrong with cursing, if anything there’s something good about cursing!
That being said, I don’t usually swear on my blog because I have the time to think out what I’m saying and cut out unnecessary words. In real life, unless I’m around old people (usually the ones who take it personally), I curse kind of regularly because it sort of just comes out as a blip, especially when I’m trying to emphasize something or am angry. I can control it if I’m being very conscious about my company, though.
    [end rant] 😛

  2. Seriously happy to hear that you’re getting better. That’s great!!! Those oats look delish. I tried making steel cut oats in the crockpot once and they were horrible. I’ll stick to stove top….

LOL – I most definitely have a potty mouth and worse than the hubs too. Not sure what that’s all about. Very lady like I am.

  3. Your cherry pie oats look sooooooo good!

I don’t have a potty mouth most of the time, but there is no mistaking when I’m mad b/c I can let out some nasty words, haha! 😉

  4. I’ve got quite the potty mouth as does my Husband, he IS a sailor after all 🙂

We don’t do it in front of the Midgets though and it’s pretty easy to turn off if you have to.

  5. What a great day planned for you!!! I miss your ask me Fridays, do you think they could make a comeback (ever) 🙂

  6. Mmm..those oats look good! I don’t really curse, and neither does my husband. Unless we’re in the car behind a slow driver. And then all bets are off.

  7. Congrats on the great results! I can only imagine how excited you are! I love a good bowl of oats in the morning 🙂 I don’t curse, unless Im driving or on the soccer field! Then sometimes it slips!

  8. I’ve never tried steel cut oats in the crock pot, but I love the idea!! (I’ve actually never bought steel cut oats either)
Do you just put the other servings in the fridge and reheat them?

    • Yes. It is just easier that way. We are both usually on the go in the morning and having oats already prepared makes our morning routine a lot shorter!

  9. Depends on my mood but sometimes my mouth is a little toiletry haha I know when to control it though!!

  10. Yes I do!

  11. Yay!! So glad that you had a great PT experience! It sounds like you are loving your doctor, and you are definitely on the road to recovery! Very glad to hear this good news…have a great weekend, Kelly!

  12. I don’t have a potty mouth. I think it makes a person sound less intelligent and I don’t need help in that area 😉

I use lots of similar words like fudge, crap, son of a biscuit, and dang. It makes people laugh and I find them using those silly words around me as well. I don’t get offended by people who cuss unless it’s my mom 😉

  13. I’m so happy for you. You get to do workoutSSSS. “S!”

You are a killer athlete, and bounce back so quickly – which is a fantastic thing! I’m glad your Doctor is so wonderful 🙂

  14. I feel like we could be besties. SOOO pumped about your running. And I think you may be putting me in a good mood, my day is blah as of now.

I am in love with cherry season, I need to get more creative, thanks for the inspiration.

I have the f*n mouth of a truckdriver. Tina Fey said that cursing is also somewhat charming at a certain age.

  15. I’m sooo glad you’re getting your groove back and feeling better! The oats look amazing!! 🙂

I definitely have a potty mouth, especially when I’m playing hockey. I never have any trouble controlling it at work, though…good thing!

  16. Hooooray for getting to do workouts! Awesome run this morning!

  17. Awesome news about the run! Glad you’re feeling better. 🙂

I swear like a trucker! I blame my ex boyfriend – he thought he was a total gangster (what was I thinking?) and swore all the time. I never swore hardly at all before he came along. Now, I work in an office with all men, in an industry that is also all men, and they are constantly telling me to watch my mouth.

  18. That’s so great about all the workouts you can do! I’m glad you are at least learning to like cross-training a little 🙂

  19. good to hear you are feeling better! Happy Kelly = Happy Keith, so he is not so mean to us in the gym ;-). Having kids cured my bad language. they copy everything you say and it is not pretty hearing a 2 year old saying those words! quick question though, why do you crock pot your oatmeal? why not just boil it for 15 minutes?

    • It is just a personal preference. Slow cooking them makes them more creamy in my opinion and by letting the spices soak into the oats for that long I feel like gives it tons more flavor. We have done it both ways and once we did it in the crockpot once we never went back! haha!

  20. Listen lady…I have the worst potty mouth! Ugh, I try so hard to get better, but I just can’t. The f bomb totally gets dropped here and often! I am so excited for you that you got to workout today! Woohoo! Happy Thursday to you!

  21. Oh wow, your doctor is really letting you be active- a good sign!

And yes, I have a bit of a potty mouth. But I know what environments to control it it (hi mom!). I think the fact that I work in an office that is 85% guys, it’s a bit expected… or at least that’s my excuse.

  22. ill admit i have a potty mouth. never really bothered to quit. sometimes i just replace some of the words with less offensive ones…lol. but it doesnt have the same effect though 🙂

  23. I definitely have a potty mouth. Sometimes when I’m typing up my blog posts I have to quick go back and change things! 🙂

  24. YAY for a doctor PRESCRIBING your workouts. Aww shucks, now you HAVE to run 7 miles. I bet you’re not disappointed in the slightest.

I can have a potty mouth. Matt has never said a bad word in his life, so I feel bad, but sometimes the word just fits the situation. Usually driving is involved.

  25. I LOVE cherries! I just bought a giant bag of fresh cherries at the grocery store since they’re in season.

I am pretty good at controlling my potty mouth.

  26. Yay on more running.

For the most part I control my potty mouth, but when I a pissed off, that F word will fly like a bird.

  27. Cherry Pie steel cut oats… yum!! I’ve never made them in the crockpot but I’ve made them in a pan several times. I haven’t had them in ages though… soon!

  28. I definitely have a potty mouth. I try to reign it in as much as I can. Yikes!

  29. yay! great results, everything sounds so great for you!! 🙂 I LOVE frozen and fresh cherries in my oats, smoothies, you name it! such a great addition 🙂

  30. i love the smell of the morning too 🙂 yes big potty mouth over hear. i control it at work but not after……oops!

  31. I have steel cut oats at home but last time I tried them they came out HORRIBLE! 😦 I need to try it again!
haha The older I get the worse my mouth is getting which is weird because I was never really too bad! Now…cover your ears! Especially when I’m driving!

  32. awesome workouts! can’t read about how swimming and hot yoga go.

  33. I have a horrible potty mouth! I think I seem sweeter on my blog than I really am 😀

And I’m glad PT is going well!

  34. congrats on the great progress!!

  35. Dang girl, what a fast run! And coming off an injury even! Jeff sounds super cool, I hope I’m that cool when I’m a PT :)!

I haven’t tried steel cut oats in the crockpot yet, but I’ve been meaning to try one of your recipes. But 8 servings? Looks like 4 to me! Isn’t 1/4 c. of steel cut oats a serving? I like making a few servings of steel cut oats at a time to just heat up in the morning.

I very rarely swear. I work a lot with kids and as an undergrad I had a university job. I knew if I got in the habit of swearing around my friends, it would be harder to sensor myself when I needed to. It definitely goes on in my head, but I’m good at using cleaner versions of the words out loud.

  36. I love making steel cut oats in my crockpot. They come out creamier AND I no longer have to worry about the liquid boiling over onto the stove. I usually throw everything together, have my husband turn it on (he stays up much later than I do) and then it’s ready when I get up in the morning (I usually do about 5 hours).
My recipe is usually steel cut oats, water, vanilla, and a chopped up banana. I tend to add the spices in at the end, but I might need to try adding them in earlier.

  37. I do curse once in a while, but for the most part I like to think I have control…I hope 😉

Glad you get to enjoy some great workouts!

  38. And here I thought I was the only one with a potty mouth!! When I said something about offending people yesterday, I was thinking you would be offended! How funny!!

I can definitely tell how excited you are to be working out again!!! Running, yoga, and swimming sounds like my idea of a great day. If you say you are grilling out for dinner after all that, I may have to…I don’t know…do something that smacks of jealousy!

  39. TOTAL potty mouth! I’m surprised that you are too, girl! You seem so sweet 🙂 Are those oats extra filling or do you supplement them with something? 8 servings seems like a ton for those ingredients.

    • Haha…thanks! 😉 The oats make 6 cups cooked and that usually gets me and Keith about 8 servings. I usually eat them with an egg white scramble to get my protein!

  40. Congrats on being able to return to running!

I’ve never thought to make oats in the crock pot– what a great idea! I’ve never had steel cut oats. What’s the difference between them and old fashioned oats?

    • Taste wise they are chewier in my opinion. But they are processed less than oats so in my opinion the less processed the better! 🙂

  41. […] on the elliptical. Lot of stretching ensued because I am little tight in the groin area from yesterday’s run. (which I am still super pumped about…thank you Dr. Jeff!) I have PT today at 12:00 and I am […]

  42. Wow, wonderful workout day! I’m serious, with all this swimming that you are having to do for your knee, I will recruit you into ironmanning in no time…(evilly taps fingers…) 😉
