‘Remember When’ Sunday

Last night Keith and I were totally going down memory lane. It was so fun. But what makes it so fun with Keith is that I are a decade apart! He was born in 1970 and I was born in 1981. So my ‘remember whens’ from childhood are more like Keith’s teenage ‘remember whens.’ But here a few notable things we covered last night:

Do you remember troll dolls?

Do you remember slap bracelets?

Do you remember New Kids On The Block?

Do you remember Saved By The Bell?

Do you remember Hypercolor Shirts?

Do you remember The Goonies?

Do you remember old school Oregon Trails?

Do you remember Keds?

Do you remember CapriSun?

Do you remember Brach’s Neapolitan Candies?

Do you remember Fun Dips?

Do you remember Rainbow Brite?

Do you remember Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles?

Do you remember Etch-a-Sketch?

Do you remember Rock-Em Sock-Em Robots?

Do you remember Starter Jackets?

And lastly, do you remember crimped hair?

What are some of your favorite ‘remember whens?’

  1. Oh my gosh you’re speaking right to my heart- trolls, slap bracelets, hypercolor, fun dip, TMNT, rainbow brite?! You just covered my entire childhood. 🙂 I remember how excited I was when I finally got a hypercolor shirt- didn’t even care that it was a hand-me-down so washed that it didn’t change color anymore haha

  2. I remember all those things and I still watch Saved By The Bell 😀

My troll dolls name is Poophead.

I also remember pay phones and rotary phones LOL!

  3. Oh my gosh, I remember all of those things!! I was born in 1983 so those things are all in my memory!! Do you remember popples??!! Those were my favorite!! 🙂

    • LOVED popples!!!

      • My dog looks just like a Popple, I think. And he can roll up like one, too.

We weren’t allowed to have slap bracelets at my school. Lamezilla!

I love watching VH1’s “I Love The…” series to get more of these moments.

  4. I remember ALL of those things. Except hypercolor shirts. Don’t know where I was for those!

I remember skating rink parties! Our school had them once a month. We played limbo, gre light green light, and skated around in circles.

  5. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE all these things!!!!

    Hmmm…remember when….

Lite brite!! My Little Ponies! Gem! Troop Beverly Hills!

    Ahhh, love it. 🙂

  6. BTW, this is Fattie Fatterton under my other blog. 😀

I remember all of those things.

I also remember things like putting beads on safety pins and putting them on your shoes.

  7. OMG I can’t believe you put Oregon Trail on here—I used to love that game!!

And NKOTB, they will always hold a special place in my heart, I think I still may have my NKOTB sleeping bag. I love that I never got to see them live but can do so now 🙂

  8. hahahaahh sooo funny. didn’t slap bracelets get banned? Did you ever play Bubble Bobble???
    LOVE the ninja turtle movie!

  9. Oh, and I also know way too much about ’70s pop culture even though I, too, was born in 1981.

  10. OMG i used to LOVE the New Kids on the Block- as in I had sheets with their faces on them on my bed haha. Oh, and Rainbow Brights and Saved by the Bell. I still watch old episodes when I stumble upon them on like TBS haha not going to lie. Thanks for the flashbacks.. Have a great Sunday hun!

  11. Hahaha omg I remember all those things. During my senior week at college they had an 80s night at the one bar and gave out glow sticks and slap braclets, it was awesome. I think I wore mine for months after that.

  12. hahaha, i was a troll for one halloween 🙂 i never had keds or got a starter jacket (even though i wanted one!). man oh man, NKOTB, TMNT, rainbow brite, crimped hair, slap bracelets, fun dip… LOVED Saved by the Bell and Oregon Trail 🙂
hehe, thanks for the time warp!

  13. I think I still have my crimper at home in Dallas, haha! Too funny!

  14. Oh gosh, I wanted to do crimped hair so badly. My mother wouldn’t allow me to do that (among many other things)…

AND, our school totally banned slap bracelets saying they were too dangerous.

also, I was totally a popple girl too.

AND, strawberry shortcake, anyone? And they brought her back recently and she’s all tarty now…

  15. Oh man! Love this…I remember all of these things. I think I went to school wearing slap bracelets NKOTB pics, and a crimped side ponytail on more than one occasion. For good measure, I usually tied up one side of my huge t-shirt with some plastic contraption and lugged a Cabbage Patch Doll in my Ninja Turtle backpack! Thanks for a fun trip down memory lane!

  16. I’m wearing keds right now!! ohhh yes! haha! I LOVE your toe post, those feet are seriously studly! I feel you on the small feet and lack of coordination! mine are size 6.5-7 and I’m 5′ 9.5″…and they have some serious WEB’s (swimmer feet!) I struggled with basic coordination as a child! 🙂 I haven’t gotten any black toes yet, but my weekly mileage hasn’t topped 45mi…great to know what’s in store for my feet in the future! I hope you’re having a fabulous sunday gorgeous girlie!! xoxo!

  17. crimp hair. OMG. i totally had a crimper!

  18. Ok you made me feel really really old. I might still have a crimper…… I don’t crimp my hair but I think I still have an old one haha 🙂

  19. hahahah this is a GREAT post! i never crimped my hair but always wanted to! etch a sketches are so fun, at the children’s hospital where i work we still have those and on slow days we have epic battles on who can sketch the best stuff. ohhh slap bracelets, good times. and my aunt has this entire collection of giant christmas troll dolls, they are truly scary, i’ll have to post pics lol

  20. Wow. That brings me back! I love love love all of those things! How about Crystal Pepsi? Remember when they tried to make clear pepsi? It was just weird. Oh, and Max Headroom, from MTV, back when MTV played music videos!

Oh, and My Little Pony! And Little House on the Prairie! And huge “mall hair”!

I always felt kind of bad for Danny and jonathon as the under-appreciated New Kids. But, come on, I would pick Donny any day!

  21. My parents refused to buy me troll dolls because they were “ugly awful looking little things”.

And I still watched Saved By the Bell reruns up until the end of college- every morning when I was getting ready for class… I guess I just can’t let go? ha ha

  22. All of those are my list!!

  23. This post put a huge smile on my face! I’m only a year younger than you so I remember it all! Except those brachs candies…weird!
Do you remember now and laters? I lost a tooth to one of those suckers!

  24. Oregon Trail was easily the best part of my childhood….no joke 😉

  25. I’m so excited! I’m so excited! I’m so . . . SCARED!!

Remember Jessie’s addiction to caffeine pills on Saved by the Bell?

Did you miss side pony tails and the slidey things on our shirts?? Slap bracelets were definitely banned at our elementary school!

    P.S. 1981!! WOOHOO!!

    • I totally remember that episode! I also always sported the side pony tail and the shirt slidy thing!! SO FUN!

Keith just chimed in with slinkies and hula hoops!

  26. Oh this is such a nice post. Helps me to relax and stop worrying and try to relax a bit. I thought you seemed like a fun person when u commented on my blog yesterday! Snap bracelets….and Mutant Ninja turtles…that was the first big-screen movie I ever saw in a movie theater.

  27. I thought my hypercolor shirt was soooo cool.

Also, Debbie Gibson and puffy paint t-shirts made up a huge part of my childhood.

  28. Ahhh Kelly, I heart you truly.
And I love this post – that it’s just fun and not heavy. My sister used to have a poster of Jordan on her wall from NKOB – obsessed alittle.
And, ditto to Debbie Gibson, Kylie Minoque and I remember some Taylor Dayne as well…oh and Whitney Houston!! God!!! “…how will you know if he really loves you, how will i know…dahaahahdah” – yeh I don’t actually remember the words 😉

  29. I remember the original Nickledeon green slime from the show, You Can’t Do That On Television. Not this second rate slime they use today. LOL!

  30. haha starter jackets! so funny!

  31. bAHAHAH THE HAIR!! i used to LOVE the “hair crimp” ahhh it prob fried my hair..gross!

  32. The scary thing is..ALL this stuff has “come back around”. Not only is it back, by my 8yr old child is begging for all the toys! Kind of strange to go to Target and see Rainbow Bright and the slap bracelets again!

  33. Slap bracelets were pretty much the coolest thing ever!
AND Trolls, and Rainbow Brite, AND Saved By The Bell.

The tv shows back when I was a kid were SO much better than they are these days.
    Remember Family Matters?

OMG and Pop Rocks. Those were the best thing ever.

  34. I actually just saw NKOTB in concert a little over a year ago on their reunion tour. haha. it was AWESOME!!!!!!

  35. I was born in 84 so I basically remember all of those things. Let me tell you- Capri Suns are still just as popular and as a teacher I HATE those things because they are so hard to get the straw into!!!

    I want a snap bracelet!

  36. aww i loooove love this post!! trolls were hilarious.

    xoxo
