I hope everyone is excited for the weekend. I am! Who has what going on? Tonight we have plans with some of our good friends, Doug and Kelly. We are headed to two of our favorite places. First, we are doing dinner at Kona Grill. Love this restaurant! Love! Then we are headed to Yogurt Planet for some fro-yo! Could this BE the most perfect night…um YES!

What are you doing tonight? Any fun plans??

Dinner last night was another easy and simple one. We grilled chicken breasts (marinated in lime juice and garlic) with roasted broccoli (and balsamic vinegar) and a side of fresh pineapple chunks! Very summery and very yum!

Easy Summer Dinner

Funny story. Keith and I have been married for almost 4 1/2 years and in that time period we have gone through 3 toaster ovens. We bought our 4th one yesterday. Seriously, we are hard on a toaster oven. We use it every single day. It is by far our most “go-to” kitchen appliance. So here’s my question, is it just me or does it seem like toaster ovens don’t have very long life expectancy rate in our house? Surely it isn’t normal to have to buy a new one every year. And this one didn’t even last us a year…we got our last one as a Christmas present from my brother! Please tell me this is normal? haha!

What kitchen appliance are you hard on?

And with that: HAPPY FRIDAY!!

  1. I grew up without a toaster oven, so that’s probably why I barely ever use one. And that’s why mine has lasted years. Now toasters–those I go through like crazy.

    Have a fun get-together tonight!

  2. I”m hard on my food processor. It has a big crack in it, but I use it anyway.

Have fun on your date. Jason and I are doing date night tonight too – it’s our 3 year dating anniversary. I’m not sure if you are still supposed to celebrate those after you get married, but we are!

  3. Honestly, I am just hoping for some relaxing times with my boys! Maybe a good movie night with them. I am hard on my pans. We go through them like crazy. Have a great Friday Kelly!

  4. My food processor! I swear one day that thing is going to blow up.

  5. Sounds like a great Friday night. Me -work! work work…blah, have to pay off my credit card though…and the bills. Then going out if lucky and getting pizza, Stella Artolis 🙂 and planning….hate being inside all day – the summer is going and I haven’t been out to enjoy it at all.
Enjoy your day….um, kitchen appliance…I know my microwave is a mess of salsa and sauce splatterings and my grill needs to be properly cleaned…big time LOL.

P.S I ‘m doing a Give-Away on my site for Pamela’s Products! They’re actually gluten/wheat-free – great for you and any readers who eat that stuff.

  6. I am pretty hard on my Magic Bullet blender. I love it for quick smoothies, but it doesn’t do ice very well, so I am always shaking it.

No big plans tonight…I have an early morning tomorrow, so it will be early to bed.

  7. Have a great date night, Kelly! I’m really hard on our baking trays– I guess because of all the baked tofu and baked vegetables, etc. They’re pretty gnarly.

  8. Definitely our kitchen spatulas! My husband is so hard on them!

  9. Have fun on your double date!

  10. I like how you channeled Chandler there!

We probably use our microwave the most. Maybe we should start cooking more?

  11. Haha, that is too funny about the toaster ovens! We must not use ours as much b/c we still use the one Andrew had in his bachelor pad! I’d say we are hardest on our baking sheets. They’re all only 2.5 years old, but they look more like 15 years old!!

Have a fun date night!! 🙂

  12. That’s funny I didn’t have a toaster oven as a kid and I use it SO rarely. We actually bought a combination toaster and toaster oven, so I use the toaster part often and almost never use the toaster oven. My husband is the opposite. Funny.

Anyway, your night does sound fabulous especially the frozen yogurt part, yum. I am headed to NH this weekend with Eric’s family which is good because it will be fun but bad because i’ve only slept in my bed one night and I can’t imagine the thought of packing again. Ah!

  13. The first time I ever owned a toaster oven was in the last year. Now I’m obsessed with it (and don’t even see then need of having a regular toaster). I use it at least every other day- luckily it’s held strong for me, but I can see how it’d be something to constantly be replaced.

  14. i totally need to use my toaster more in the summer instead of the oven… too bad mine’s crappy and doesn’t work so hot! i’m trying some thai tapas tonight so i’m excited 🙂 have a great weekend!

  15. Fun, Fun night! Going to my Body Pump sisters wedding tonight! YAY! Then whackin some golf balls, laying out, workin gout and the lastly, doing taxes. BLAH! Hey, it can’t all be fun and games. lol

  16. That meal looks so good! I love simple fresh meals like that! And toaster ovens are a must I actually just broke mine and am looking for a good one.

  17. I have a hawt workout and dinner plans with my hubs. Woo hoo, crazy, jk.

Have fun this weekend! Your toaster ovens clearly can’t take the heat in the kitchen.

We have gone through a ton of blenders before we found our gem that’s learned to last!

  18. Ha. Haven’t had to buy a new toaster oven since Keith moved out. It must be him. Blame Keith.

  19. my poor food processor…..use it a few times a day

  20. My blender cries for me to buy a food processor every time we use it

  21. my blender! seriously one day it may explode. some day a vitamix will come my way.

    nice weights workout!

  22. I love our toaster oven! It’s a trooper becuase even with near daily use, it has made it through the 2 1/2 years of our marriage like a champ.

I’m really hard on my Magic Bullet. I use it multiple times a day to make the batter for protein pancakes, protein shakes, “soft-serve” , and even to chop small amounts of onion and such for recipes. LOVE this gadget!

    • I am going to call you in a minute but I made my first Green Monster a few minutes ago….holler…that thing was AWESOME!

  23. I’m really hard on my blender. I managed to break 2 of them in just a couple months.
My toaster oven I’ve had forever. It was my grandmas. She used it as an oven in their motorhome. Then when they stopped travelling so much she gave it to my mom. Then, when my moms kitchen exploded and she got new counters she gave it to me. Its a pretty hardcore toaster oven though, that’s probably why its lasted so long.

  24. My toaster oven is my favorite appliance! I use it all the time. I don’t think we’ve replaced ours in years though, as far as I know.

  25. I am hard on m y blender (i had to replace it last week!!!)

No plans for tonight and couldn’t be happier about it!

  26. i use my mixer all.the.time. that, my blender, and my food processor get the brunt of all the work!

girl, your workouts are killer! i’m thinking i might do them too 🙂

  27. Haha I think you are buying the wrong kind of toaster oven! I have had mine for four years (using it everyday) and it still works great. It makes a few funky noises, but it still toasts 😉

Enjoy your weekend! My parents are coming into town tonight so I will be busy entertaining them!

  28. Oh you lucky girl! Have fun!

Just broke the blender yesterday, but fortunately my tech-savvy husband saves old blenders for parts – he made a quick swap and it was good to go!

  29. that is a tough workout girl!!!! the magic bullet-i love it but we are hard on it!

  30. Happy Friday to you too! I hope your date night with friends goes well. It sure sounds like fun. 🙂

That does sound like a tough workout. 30 reps? I would die! I get antsy after 15. LOL

  31. I haven’t been to Kona in a while, Dan doesn’t like it 😦 Have fun! I may have to have FroYo tonight, was too lazy to drive to Berry Cool once I ate dinner and showered last night.

We are going to Antone’s tonight and then to New Braunfels for the weekend tomorrow afternoon.

I think i’m hardest on my ice tea maker, lol. I haven’t had it but a few months, but I use it at least every other day. That or my stick blender, which I already broke after a few months

  32. I love that you used Jackie Warner’s video. I miss her show on Bravo

  33. We have gone through a couple of toaster ovens too. We now have a convection oven that we LOVE. It gets used daily. We have had it for several years. It doesn’t heat up the kitchen and is good when only cooking for a couple of people.
Good for you on the weight lifting. Do you have any diagrams of the exercises that you list?

    • They come from the book This Is Why Your Fate by Jackie Warner. She demos all the exercises with pictures and written explanations…great book!

  34. Our toaster ovens don’t necessarily break a lot…but they seem to toast completely unevenly. I don’t what’s up with it. I tend to prefer to regular old toaster. We are very hard on our griddle…all those pancakes!

  35. i got my toaster oven at a thrift store years ago. Still running like a champ, even though I have started multiple fires in it. Yes, its true.

I even bake cookies in that bad boy! Could it BE a better appliance?

    30 jumps squats…I couldn’t hang. I had to do 15, rest, 15 more. They were SLOPPY. 😀

    • Puh-lease! I am totally rolling my eyes at you….I am sure you could kick my ass in jump squats any day of the week! 😉

  36. Crazy enough we still have the same toaster oven we received as a wedding gift 10 years ago! I know, I can’t believe it either. And I use this toaster about 5 times a day for everything from making brownies to baking pasta. I couldn’t live without it!

Your workout is really impressive…I can do…none of that!

  37. I’m hard on my blendtec blender. It gets daily use and I blend things that sometimes are hard to blend.. that’s why it’s expensive though. And it works!

Happy Friday! Wonderful lookin’ chicken dish! Simple yet good!

The boyfriend and I are probably going to go see Inception (finally!) and maybe grab some dinner and drinks before. I’m just happy it’s Friday.

  38. Well, it’s not a kitchen appliance but I go through vacuum cleaners like nobody’s business. I have a lot of hair and it just kills them. I finally sprung for a Dyson hoping it will last longer than the others did!

  39. Oh that’s easy we have gone through 3 coffee makers in the last 3 years and 2 blenders in 2 years and I’m hard on the beloved rice maker also 😉
My toaster is trucking along dingy and half working 😉 the bread slices also get stuck ;(

I love date nights also with my hubs I wanted one this wkend to go watch SALT but instead we had Friends over for Perudo While the kids “wrestled” 😉
    Fun times!!!
