Happy Thursday

Happy Thursday everyone! This week just keeps on truckin by…gotta love it! I was SUPER sore yesterday from PT. I actually thought it would be smart to go to Whole Foods after wards…BIG MISTAKE….HUGE! (Name that movie πŸ™‚ ) My groin hurt so bad I actually had to buy a Coke to put between my legs while I drove home. I will let you digest that mental picture for a minute. Um…yeah. It felt good though…just sayin.

So this morning my workout has been really good. I got in 10 miles. I took it easy and stayed at a nice 8:58/pace. I didn’t want to push it and I feel really good right now! I am 38 miles in for the week without and major pain. πŸ™‚

Dinner last night was salmon. I made my Balsamic Glazed Salmon with some steamed asparagus. It was really good. I haven’t had salmon in a while and this totally hit the spot! Plus it was easy and I love that! πŸ™‚ Wednesdays are notoriously not my favorite day (no surprise here) and so anything I can do to make it better (aka: easier) I will!

Have you ever had a panic attack? Do you know what one is? A panic attack is a sudden feeling of extreme anxiety or intense fear without a clear cause or when there is no danger. Panic attacks are common. They sometimes occur in otherwise normal, healthy people and will usually last for several minutes.

Symptoms include feelings of dying or losing control of yourself, rapid breathing (hyperventilation), and a racing heart. You may feel dizzy, sweaty, or shaky. Other symptoms include trouble breathing, chest pain or tightness, and an irregular heartbeat. These symptoms come on suddenly and without warning.

A panic attack is different from a phobia. Phobias are extreme and irrational fears that interfere with daily life. People with phobias have fears that are out of proportion to real danger. And although these people are aware that their fears are not rational, they are not able to control them.

Phobias are common and are sometimes present with other conditions, such as panic disorder or Tourette’s disorder. Most people deal with phobias by avoiding the situation or object that causes them to feel panic (avoidance behavior).

I have always had a phobia of becoming paralyzed. It used to keep me up at night as little kid and I would get so worked up that I would start crying and my parents would have to calm me down. It was bad. Thankfully, I am not that way anymore but it does sometimes still creep up and cause me to get a little shaky!

    My sister suffers from panic attacks. I’ve gotten them occasionally but they’re really bad for her, to the point where she has trouble interviewing for jobs because of the anxiety.

    I have an extreme phobia of spiders, to the point where things that look like spiders (a cricket with its legs spread, for example) freak me out really bad. I also can’t look at or touch pictures/drawings of spiders that are remotely realistic. :S

    I have had a panic attack once, in bed while trying to go to sleep. You literally think you are dying. that’s all I will say about that.

    I will go with Dr Jones and say I have a phobia of snakes. ew.ew.ew.

  5. I never thought I had a phobia, but after having MRI’s…yeah, I can’t be in confined spaces like that! I have definitely had panic attacks, but I am trying to relax more with things I have no control over!

  6. I used to think people who had panic attacks were just being dramatic… that is until I had my own!! They are very real and very, very scary. The worst I ever had them was right before I got married. It had nothing to do with Andrew, but everything to do with my anxieties about hurting people’s feelings, making sure everything got done, etc… I even had to go to the doctor and get prescription medicine for it. They start to sneak up on me every once in awhile, but I am pretty good about talking myself out of them now.

  7. I’ve never had a panic attack, and I wouldn’t classify my fear of snakes as a phobia, but I am definitely afraid of them.

  10. I’ve never had a panic attack, but I think that I have something similar in my sleep sometimes. I’ll wake up every now and then totally scared and shaking. Sometimes I remember my dream and it’s a panic attack kind of feeling. It is not pleasant to wake up to. I hope they don’t enter my daytime life anytime soon.

    I’ve definitely never had a panic attack. However all of my nightmares involve being chased with no where to go.

  12. thank goodness have no phobias! that would be horrible πŸ™‚ i would definitely say that grilled chicken, grilled veggies, and pasta are my favorite quick go-to items…yummy πŸ™‚

  13. I have a major phobia of cockroaches. Even if someone mentions them I start thinking they’re all over my house. When I did see once once … um, I couldn’t breathe right for an hour. Ah!!! And now I’m getting a mental picture. Gotta go cleanse the mind.

    One tip for yummy salmon : chop a leek ( and garlic) and make it golden in a pan ( sorry for lack of kitchen vocabulary), the on top of the salmon and the whole beauty in the owen πŸ™‚

    I found out today that I have celiac disease, any advise here my friend?? I am most conserned about my fiber intake and carbs.

    • YES!!!! I have tons of advice for you. Keith and I keep about a 90% Gluten-free diet so I have tons of products and tips for you. I will email you this afternoon!!!

  15. I do have panic attacks and they SUCK!! I only get them randomly once or twice a year usually when I’m laying in bed at night just over thinking life. I had 3 two weeks ago though, I think it’s because of all the changes coming in my life. They are very exciting, but a little scary too!

    • When my knee started hurting I altered my running gait (unconsiously) and now my groin is suffering. But I can’t figure out how I am running any differently…it is frusterating for sure!

  17. I am really VERY afraid of snakes. I saw one on my run a couple of weeks ago and started hyperventilating and crying even though it was probably 20 feet away from me and wasn’t even paying attention to me. Just thinking about it gives me the willies!

  18. I get anxiety a lot but not usually a full out panic attack. my mom and sister both have had those and they are SCARY. I don’t have a specific phobia but don’t care for spiders much. πŸ™‚

  19. I don’t have any true specific phobias, but I am a little claustrophobic. I’ve also had one panic attack (before a graduate school test).

    I’m sorry about your soreness! The coke bottle idea was pretty ingenious though!

  23. I have one or two panic attacks (not exceeding four) each year, usually resultiing from school stress. It’s really hard to overcome that feeling of total despair, and thinking that you need to be perfect sometimes. Buuuuuuuttt…. im a happy camper usually so it evens out πŸ™‚

    Yes, I have had a panic attack! Only one, and it happened on the subway in Mexico city! The train I was on was super packed, and I began to feel claustrophobic…Suddenly I was sweating and couldn’t breathe! I really thought I was dying! I ended up getting off the train several stops early, and felt so much better. Scary though! I have NO IDEA why it happened!

  25. I had one really bad panic attack before …went to ER and just slept there cause I was actually afraid to go back home…but although I definitely freak out – I would say it’s more of an anxiety issue – extreme anxiety.

    Hope your not as sore today! Your “comeback” is incredible !

  26. I used to work as a lifeguard in college and their was a little pool where all the kiddies played and they hit their heads countless times. I remember one time it was SO crowded that I literally had a panic attack bc I thought someone was going to drown and I wouldn’t see it. It was soo so scary. I couldn’t catch my breath, I felt awful!

  27. Yes I have had panic attacks. Extreme life stress. Wont go into it, but yes, it’s very scary and it’s a wakeup call that no matter what’s wrong in life, nothing is worth THAT kind of reaction or toll to our bodies πŸ™‚

  28. I have never had a panic attack. I seen another person have one, though. I can honestly say, it was very difficult for me to understand that kind of anxiety/stress until I actually witnessed it and it was very real.

    I wouldn’t say I have any phobias either. I just have a very irrational hatred for our feathered friends. Yes, I’m afraid of birds! Walking through a flock of pigeons in the city is my worst nightmare. To me, all their little tweets are saying, “Let’s dive bomb, Becky and poke her eyes out!” Crazy, I know!

  29. My husband use to have panic attacks. At one point they were pretty severe, but he’s learned how to get past them for the most point.

  31. YES I have had a panick attack, I had to go to the hospital acutally it was one of the scariest moments of my life. thankfully it only happened once and I learned to control my anxiety a little bit so it never has happened since!

  33. I used to have a major thunderstorm phobia. If I even saw a dark cloud I’d start to panic! No idea where it came from but I’m very glad it’s gone now :).

  34. ugh, yes unforunately i have panic attacks all the time. i used to get them so bad when i was in college. i’ve checked myself into the emergency room SEVERAL times bc i thought i was dying or something was about to happen. it is the worst feeling. i have phobias too, and i can’t stand how annoying they are. i know they are completely irrational but my mind will spin out of control once i have an irrational thought. they’re called intrusive thoughts and ugh they suck! i used to be on medicine but i have found that regular exercise helps with coping. i’ve figured out some of my own coping skills as well, but they do sneak up randomly! especially when i am driving!

    I’ve never had a panic attack, but my mom has really serious anxiety issues, so I feel for people that do.
