I’m JAVA for Friday!

Holy Moley…it is Friday! WOOT! My Fridays aren’t usually any different than any other day of the week but simply knowing that it is Friday makes me instantly happy! This morning I polished off a 10 mile run (no surprise there) but I added some additions to my run. I played with the speeds and the inclines. I had to treadmill it because I have my running group in about an hour and I didn’t want to run in the dark this morning. Anyway…I ended up bouncing around the whole time with speeds between 7.0  – 7.5. It was HARD, FUN, and SWEATY!!! 🙂 Now I am drinking my java and thinking about what I want for breakfast! Waffles would be good. But do we have a waffle maker…no…do I have any frozen waffles…no…so will I be eating waffles for breakfast…again…no! haha! 🙂

Speaking of coffee…do you have a favorite coffee cup? I do. I love drinking my coffee out of this baby! Isn’t it cute and I swear that my coffee even tastes better from this bad boy!

My favorite coffee cup! I got it at Starbucks on clearance for $3.95!!

Since I am obviously on a coffee kick this morning; how do you like yours? Keith swears I am really just drinking coffee flavored water because I brew about 10 cups to 4 scoops (regular not jumbo) of coffee. Plus I also buy the mild breakfast blend (from Whole Foods…it is the best!) What can I say…I like it weak!?

The best coffee EVER!

How do you like your coffee? STRONG or WIMPY?

Moving on from coffee…yesterday, Julie posted a link to an awesome blog that I want to urge you guys to visit. It is called Fed Up With Lunch: The School Lunch Project. It is a teacher, Mrs. Q who is taking on the crappy lunches served in American schools. She writes, “It’s very challenging to teach students when they are eating school lunches that don’t give them the nutrition they need and deserve. Oftentimes what is served barely passes muster as something edible. And after a meal high in sugar and fat and low in fiber, they then must pay attention in a classroom. I’m going to attempt to eat school lunch everyday in 2010. As a teacher it’s available to me as well for a few dollars. Most of the students at my school get free lunch or reduced. I’m going to take pictures of the school lunch and post them. Normally I shop for organic fruits and veggies. I avoid processed foods and food high in sugar and high fructose corn syrup, but I normally eat food brought from hom including leftovers, sandwich, or a “healthy” microwave meal for lunch with yogurt and a piece of fruit. The reason I’m eating school lunch every day is to raise awareness about school lunch food in America. ”

Let’s all support Mrs. Q on this journey and follow her blog!!

  1. I like my coffee STRONG!!! And I totally have a favorite mug, and yes, my coffee tastes better in it 🙂

    Happy Friday, girl!!!!

  2. I don’t really like coffee at all, unless it has lots of junk in it!

  3. I LOVE Java!! And Fridays!! Although without a job I don’t know what day it is.

I do have a favorite cup 🙂 Coffee tastes better when you have a favorite right?

  4. Frozen waffles are just as fine!

  5. My favorite cup says Days Of Our Lives, and I loooove Newman’s Onw Organic decaf!

  6. I teach 2 days a week and I can get free lunch so I take advantage of it. No fruits or veggies…ever (except applesauce). Good luck!!

  7. If I have to run on the dreadmill, I do intervals and HIIT workouts too. Makes the time go by for me. Good job with those speeds!! I really need to get back to some speed work myself. Thanks for sharing that post/link by the way!

  8. I like my coffee minus the coffee. I just never developed a taste for it.

  9. Hmm I like my coffee with caramel syrup from starbucks, haha! I honestly have no idea how I would take my coffee if I were to make it at home. I checked out that website yesterday, it’s crazy what they serve for lunches there.

  10. Yay Friday!!! Just the fact that it’s Friday – makes the day sooo great!

I love my coffee STRONG. We buy a dark roast and perc it as strong as we can. I like it with a little cream (yup -cream!) and a tsp of sugar (yup – sugar!)…. or just completely black – how’s that for strong!

Hope you have a great Friday!

  11. I’m obsessed with coffee… but I’m not a coffee snob 😉 Gold old folgers works for me 🙂

I am pretty obsessed with my coffee mugs though 🙂

  12. I like coffee with my milk and sugar. (So, yeah, I like it weak too!) I think that school lunch project sounds great. I saw something on TV (or was it something I read?) that said most school kitchens don’t have the materials needed to cook a real meal–the right knives, bowls, stovetop, etc. No wonder the food tastes so bad and is just a bunch of processed gunk!

  13. What an awesome endeavor! School lunches are SCARY!

10 miles on a Friday morning!? You’re awesome!

I love my coffee dark!! That’s why I love Starbucks so much :O ) I usually prefer cappuccino and I love MY cappuccino cups best!

    Have a wonderful weekend!

  14. I’m on a Starbucks VIA kick (the instant kind). I love it! I think I like it strong, but not bitter. For the Via it says to add 6z of water, but I think I add 8-10oz. I drink it black.
    Have a great weekend!

  15. That is a strong woman to eat school lunch everyday. From what I remember, they were NA-STAY! There were definitely days I chose starving over eating what was on the tray. Sad but true.

I like medium-strong coffee with a bit of creamer. Real creamer, not that fake shot of nondairy crap… :p

  16. i like coffee

    lots of milk
and flavored (normally sugar-free, i know, BAD!) SYRUP

  17. I like my coffee strong, french roast, lots of sugar! I want it to make me sweat!

I tweeted about that site the other day!

  18. Mmm I love strong coffee and I drink it black. Always have. It’s how my dad drank it growing up so I just always have it that way now.
And I love Mrs. Q’s website- it’s so fascinating. What an awesome idea for a blog!
    Happy Friday darlin!

  19. I like my coffee… “normal?” Is that an option? And it definitely tastes better out of my favorite milk! Yay for Mrs. Q! I didn’t even eat school lunch when I was in school!

  20. I dont life my coffee any way, at all. I love the way it smells though. I want to make some just to smell it some mornings. Or go and sit in starbucks just for the smell and not order anything.

Thats going to be a very interesting blog. Cant wait to read it.

  21. Grande skim latte for me, PLEASE! I actually really love soy lattes, but they are a bit sweet, so I usually just have them as a treat. P.S. So glad you picked the green suit…I knew you’d follow my advice 😉

  22. Sounds like a great blog and project – I’m going to check it out!

As far as coffee goes, I like it strong, but for some reason I don’t know how to make it strong. It always turns out weak – hence my husband is the coffee maker in the house.

  23. I like my coffee strong but not bitter!

    what an interesting blog idea!!

  24. I have a favorite coffee cup and it is basically a bowl of extremely strong coffee with almond milk and a splash of stevia. Starts my day off just right!!!

  25. no coffee for me.

i like what mrs. q is doing. when i ask my brother what he ate at school today he will say mozarella sticks or chicken fingers or pizza bread….im like seriously? thats it? its no wonder when he gets home he’s on the verge of chewing his arm off. no real nutritional value and he says it tastes like crap too. poor kids.

  26. I have to favorite mugs: 1 is a stack of pancakes with syrup and berries drizzled over top and the 2nd mug has a guy lounging saying “Life is Good!”

It’s not for coffee though because I am a tea fan

  27. HEY my gorgeous Sista!!!
way to be a BALLER on the T.M. this morning!! and ohhhhh COFFEE…it’s true LOVE! I definitely have FAVORITE mugs!! I usually pick my morning mug depending on my mood! (haha I’m a wierdo!) I like my coffee towards the stronger end of the spectrum…but not toooo strong!!! mmmm I LOVE to sit in work at WF and smell all our delicious coffee’s as customers grind their bean….(see I really am a wierdo!!) hahaha! I hope you have a GLORIOUS FRIDAY!!! ya ya ya! I heart you chica! xoxo!

    • Lizzy…I love you…you leave me the sweetest, happiest comments everyday! I think you are one person who can truly match my energy level! haha! 🙂

  28. I like my coffee at a medium strength, I’ve finally got the right ratio. I used to drink it really weak and then I had kids 🙂

I only have one cup though and it’s usually either with milk or flavored creamer. Yummy!

    • Me too…I am not one of those people who can drink coffee all day long. I usually drink 2 cups in the morning with breakfast and then I am over it. My dad drinks it all day long…I just can’t do that!

  29. Our school lunches are horrible. They only saving grace is they do have a salad/fruit selection each day. It’s incredible what the kids (94% free or reduced) eat. Most days it’s fried something or vegetables cooked in oil, salt, or bacon.

I used to eat that because I was “too busy” in the mornings to make my lunch. Not any. more. For the past 2 years, I stay away from the school lunch. Ew

  30. Definitely strong.
And supporting Mrs. Q is probably a better idea than rooting for the 600 lb woman who is eating her way to 1000 lbs on purpose – and getting paid for it apparently by posting it on the internet! :0 – did you hear about that?

  31. mmm COFFEEEEE love it, everyday is java day for me 🙂

  32. Thanks for sharing the School Lunch Project. I have only skimmed a little and am already depressed. I guess I ate stuff like that too when I was in high school, but it seems like we should know better now!

    Definitely like the coffee strong!

  33. That food is disgusting. I remember being an exchange student in High School and just thinking, What am I going to eat? Luckily my second family lived so close by, I always went home to eat… puh

My favorite cup is a brown one with interesting texture. I took it from my parents in law. They let me keep it. I am a little OCD and all my plates, bowls and cups are white! This is the only one that is different. I like touching it, it has ridges etc. 🙂

I don’t drink coffee anymore. A stopped a couple of years ago because it made me nervous and ever since I get the WORT stomach ache if I just have a sip of it. 😦

  34. WOW! That is one BRAVE teacher. I have never bought lunch in 4 years of teaching and I doubt I ever will. Fortunately, most of my kids parents limit how often they buy. Today one of my kids wanted a fluff sandwich I was like NO, peanut butter and fluff is fine, but not PLAIN fluff, there is no nutritional value in that at all! I hope Mrs. Q gets some school cafeterias to pay attention to how bad this is for the kids!!!

  35. Hi Kelly!!!

I love coffee too!! With lot’s of milk, yam!! Every morning 🙂

I got some really bad news today, I have a herniated disk between C5-C6 😦 Do you (or Keith) have any knowledge if running and other exercise is ok in this situation?? The Dr. just told me to do what fees good but I don’t think he really understood how much I exercise 🙂

    • Hey Peps – not to butt in haha ;)…so sorry about your Neck – I hope you aren’t in too much pain? I am a Physio, and I strongly recommend going to see a Physio – I can’t believe your Doc didn’t send you – for proper advice and assessment…especially if you are an avid exerciser as you say you are? I don’t know the severity of it obviously because I’m not your Doc and haven’t assessed you! – but you don’t want to mess around with it….

      • I am going to agree with Jenn…I would feel much better about you seeing a specialist! So sorry honey!!

      • Thank you for caring 🙂 both of you! I will try to see a specialist first thing on Monday. Yeah, this is so horrible…

  36. Hi Kelly! Another question to my favorite blogging expert: If running 8 to 10 miles every day, what calorie range should I stay within for a day? I have a small frame…only 5 feet 3 inches. Could you give me a range that I can use as a guide? Thanks!

    • Do you have a heart rate monitor that shows you the amount of calories you burn? I wear one and it is GREAT! It is a great guide to show you how many calories you need to make up throughout the day. So if you burn 600 calories on your 8 mile run you would know that you needed to eat an addtional 600 calories through out the day in order to mantain your weight. Without more specfic information about you that is really the best I can offer. If you want to get more specific then feel free to shoot me an email!! 🙂

  37. I definitely have a favorite coffee cup! It’s from the Frida Kahlo House/Museum in Mexico City. I usually drink my java with a splash of milk although I’ve recently switched to almond milk.

and p.s. you are definitely a runner! and my friend 🙂

  38. I can’t really have coffee because it makes me shaky and a sick tummy 😦 but oh I wish I could have a nice jolt, decaf is okay sometimes. 10 miles?! Wow! awesome and you are fast! Sounds like a great blog, I know the kids here just have crap to eat when I did part of my community rotation at the school food service. It’s really sad, but some districts seem to be better than others.

  39. I make my coffee STRONG and then use a french press (which makes it even stronger). But I only drink about 1 1/2 or 2 cups. I used to make it really weak, but then I’d drink about 4 mugs. The French Press is probably better for me, hydration wise!

Thanks for the link to that blog. I’d heard about it and forgotten. I think that woman is BRAVE. Have you seen some of the school lunches out there?

  40. Where I intern doing group therapy, we feed our kids huge sandwiches on white bread–steak and cheese, meatball parm, seafood salad, blt–then we wonder why their out of it for the rest of the day. When I started, the kids were getting cool aid to drink but I quickly put an end to that. I love what she’s doing–totally selfless since that food is soooo gross. Thanks for bringing it to our attention.

So funny about your coffee! That’s pretty weak but good thing if you’re drinking 10 cups. haha. I need to go mug shopping because I LOVE a good mug.

  41. After living in Sweden, I like my coffee so STRONG with a splash of half and half… nothing better in the mornings, in my honest opinion 🙂 Thanks for bringing Julie’s blog to our attention. It sounds like she is doing an awesome thing… when I think back to the days when I would eat a slice of pizza or chicken nuggets and fries for lunch EVERY DAY.. I just cringe at the thought. At least I learned eventually that this kind of food is horrible for us.. and not to mention it makes us feel irritable. Some young people aren’t as lucky… we seriously need to take a look at the American schools’ lunch nutrition.

  42. 1) I do have a favorite coffee cup. It’s simply red and I just love it! It’s from my sister. Maybe that’s why it’s special to me.

    2) I am SO going to follow Mrs. Q’s blog. I think that is so excellent!

  43. I LOVE your mug!! 🙂

  44. i MUST try that coffee!! i LOVE your mug! i LOVE my big ole starbucks mug! it fits soo much coffee in it!

  45. I’m totally a strong black coffee girl. And I love your mug…I’m a fan of any mug that can fit cups and cups of coffee! 🙂
