Post-Race Recovery

Good Monday morning everyone! I am officially SORE from the race yesterday! Holy wow…the worst is my booty! Seriously!! But it was worth it!! 🙂 

I had lot of emails from people wanting to know what I use as pre-race fuel. So let’s back up to Saturday night, shall we? I do believe in carbo-loading BUT I don’t believe in carbo-loading only on the night before a race. That, in my experience, only makes me sluggish the next day which is the exact opposite of what you are looking for on race day. So what I do is increase my carbohydrate intake over the course of that entire week proir to racing. And when I say carbohydrates I don’t want you to think I am sitting around inhaling loaves of bread! I am talking about healthy carbohydrates…sweet potatoes, black beans, fruits, vegetables, pastas, you get the idea. Things I typically eat anyway but just more of them. So the night before, I kept it simple and fueled up with a Flatout wrap stuffed with a mashed sweet potato and black beans. It was FABULOUS! Sorry about the blurry picture: 

Pre-Race Dinner

This morning I did a light workout that included some cycling and some elliptical followed by a lot of stretching! I need to work out that lactic acid and not doing anything is only going to make the soreness worse! I am also definitely sporting my compression socks. Aren’t they lovely? 

Compression Socks

 I swear by my compression socks! I absoltely LOVE them! I sport a brand by a company called CEP and they are amazing! What are compression socks, you ask? They are snug-fitting, over-the-calf socks aimed at improving oxygen delivery to muscles, speeding lactic acid removal and stabilizing the lower leg for greater muscle efficiency. Studies have also shown that wearing these socks post race show a faster lactate recovery rate. Just what these legs need! 

I also want to give a shout out to the flipping AMAZING Indianapolis Colts! My boys are going to the Superbowl! I think yesterday was the best day ever! I qualified for the New York City Marathon AND the Colts won! Someone was smiling on me for sure! 🙂

    • That is so funny because honestly I HATE my legs! I guess we always think someone else has it better and we just need to be thankful for what we have! 🙂
