Wednesday News

Hi guys! Sorry I am not posting regularly or reading blogs as of late. Truth? I have simply lost my mojo. :( This hand injury has been so debilitating. I can’t even explain. Everything takes twice as long (if not near impossible) and I get so frustrated and angry. Everyday seems like this mountain that I have to climb over and over. I am coping but living with one hand is so hard. My heart goes out to all of those who have a permanent limb loss. They are all officially my heroes! I have decided too, that once I have recovered I am going to find a way to help people who are missing a limb. Be it volunteering or finacially…but something! This has taught me a lot about myself, both good and bad. I hope to be able to channel this into some good when it is all said and done.

An injury update: I went to PT yesterday and met with the therapist and the doctor who performed the surgery. Apparently my body produces next to no scar tissue so this has helped with the swelling and my range of movement. However, because of that my tendon is more likely to tear (due to the lack of protection from scar tissue) and therefore my PT is slowing me down. She said I was doing my PT exercises with too much intensity and I needed to be patient and back off a little. Does this surprise anyone? haha! I didn’t think so. ;) But I will say that it was a tad discouraging.

Onto better news, I have been reading A LOT! I have book reviews! All of these books were given to me by Hilary:

  • First, I read Are You There Vodka, It Is Me Chelsea? by Chelsea Handler. This was very funny. Like laugh out loud funny. I would be silently reading and the burst out laughing. It was good, although I was wondering if it was actually 100% true because some of her stories were off the hook.
  • Second, I read Best Friends Forever by Jennifer Weiner. I really liked this a lot too. But then again I don’t think I have ever read a Jennifer Weiner book that I didn’t like. The ending was a little cheesy…you know, the “all wrapped up with a pretty little bow” type ending. But it was a feel good read.
  • Third, I am about halfway finished with The Lost Recipe for Happiness by Barbara O’Neal. So far this is great!!  Hilary said this was just a random buy but it was a good one!
  • I am also listening to the book on tape, London is the Best City in America by Laura Dove. I downloaded this to my IPOD because I am allowed to walk on the treadmill in the mornings and I listen to this. It is really really good!

Okay guys, my right hand is officially cramped! One handed typing is HARD!!! But I will post again this week because I have a giveaway…woo hoo! I hope everyone is doing great and hopefully I get my blogging mojo back because I miss you all! Truthfully, blogging is hard with one hand and I sometimes get too discouraged to try. But I am trying! :)

  1. hang in there kelly…you are seriously a rock star for being as strong and brave about this as you have been! i can’t wait to see you post again, and i can’t wait for the giveaway :)

  2. Don’t apologize! You need to recover and do what is best for you at this moment. We will always be here!

  3. Man I feel for you. I would be pretty down in the dumps if I had an injury like that.

BTW I TOTALLY want to read that Chelsea Handler book. Now I have to pick it up.

  4. Girl u are a trooper for posting at all!! I just got kicked in the elbow at my game and can’t move my arm at all, so I totally know what u mean by debilitatied!! Except mine will heal in a few days I’m sure. Hang in there girl. It may b a long road but u can do it!

  5. I love the Chelsea Handler books, I think her third one that just came out is even funnier than that one! Hope you feel better soon!

  6. I can’t believe you typed out such a long post! Don’t get carpal tunnel in the other hand. I’m thinking about you–hoping your hand will be in typing/cooking/bra-strap-clasping shape soon.

  7. hang in there kelly!

  8. You sound better and stronger :) great job on the reads! And the treadmill walking! Take care, girlie!

  9. Wow, I go out of town for two weeks and you go and get yourself in all kiinds of trouble!! So sorry for all you are going through. Amazing how we appreciate the things we take for granted in our everyday lives when all of sudden we can’t do them . Hang in there, we know how tough you are. You are lucky to have such a sweet hubby to help and support you!

  10. I am reading a Jennifer Weiner book right now. My only beef with her is that she almost always seems to have a fat character down on herself that never does anything about it

  11. Appreciate the updates, I know it’s hard. You do what you need to, we are going anywhere — sorry, stuck with us.

Chelsea’s book is one I’m dying to read!

  12. I’m glad to hear that you can get some little treadmill walks in! And it doesn’t surprise me one lick that you are pushing your PT as hard as you can! :)

  13. Oh gosh, take all the time you need! Your blog is for you, not us. We will be here when you get back!!!

    Feel better!

  14. Still thinking of you!!

  15. Your books sound good! I just finished The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane. Interesting historical fiction about the Salem witch trials woven with a modern woman seeking her PhD in colonial history. It’s also on CD. Hang in there -

  16. I think it’s so great that you’re going to find a way to give back when you’re all better!! Take it easy and I’ll keep thinking healing thoughts for you.

  17. You’ve been in my thoughts… I hope you make a speedy recovery!

  18. First off, I am sorry that things are so frustrating! When you are used to being so active and do things for yourself, this is the worst situation to be in! Second, I am so glad you can walk on the treadmill. I am not gonna lie, when I had my surgery, that was the best part of my day! I listened to my favorite music and walked with so much happiness! It seems lame that walking felt so good, but I was used to working out everyday and not being aloud to do what Ioved to do, knocked the wind out of me! I am glad you are reading some great stuff. I will have to check those books out since I am always on the lookout for a good recommendation! I hope you have a great afternoon!

  19. Look at you reading up a storm! I knew you’d love Chelsea! I’m still on hold for her other two books from the library… ugh!

How am I not surprised you’d be going nuts with the pt? lol. Just keep on keeping on, girl! Remember what you said last week- you’re only on your way to recovery from here! :)

  20. SOOOO suuper glad to hear from you Kelly! I am glad to see your still kickin! Hang in there, it will only get better! and remember to listen to your pt because if you’re more prone to re-injuring it, you don’t want to push yourself too hard…but no, I am not surprised that you were pushing it too hard! haha

I bet it is a relief you get to walk on the treadmill! At least you are able to do some form of exercise :) just remember….its better than nothing!

Hope you have a great day!

  21. Im so impressed you can even blog at all.

You should just do video posts from now on until it heals :).

Happy healing and I hope it gets better. Just be patient and youllg et there.

  22. Hang in there Kelly :) I remember how hard it was & how hopeless I felt when the pain I have was so bad in my hands that I couldn’t function. It sucked & nothing anyone said made me feel better, but it DID pass.

I’ve always seen that Vodka book but wasn’t sure if I’d like it- I think I’ll check it out now ;)

  23. It’s ok to lose your mojo once in a while. You’re only human!

  24. You can walk on the treadmill?!?! That’s great news!!!

As for that mojo – its only lost temporarily. You’ll get it back.

  25. I was wondering if you had any book reviews at this point.

I once worked with a lady with breast cancer. The buildup of scar tissue and swelling of lymph nodes rendered it impossible for her to lift her arms, put on a shirt, etc etc…

    that is courage there.
That is something that slaps me humbly when I whine over only being to do one walk a day. I bemoan my body because it is absolutely dead on me…yet I still have the ability to breathe and a walk.

I agree with you about helping others out. Good stuff.

  26. I’m thinkin about you Kelly! Don’t worry, your mojo will come back! XOXOXOX

  27. I was thinking about you this morning! I’m glad to see an update.

You will get that mojo back! Keep doing what you need to. Keep reading and relaxing. :)

  28. DUDE, Chelsea Handler was an author I forgot to recommend to you! I read Are You There Vodka, believe it or not, in a bookstore. I was too cheap to buy it. *shame* But yeah, it’s really hard to contain yourself while reading it. The bookstore was quiet and I was trying to not get caught reading a book I hadn’t bought, so I ended up making a ton of farting noises as I covered my mouth whenever I started laughing really hard. An unfortunate side effect of Handler’s hilarity. ;) So I’m glad you got to read it!

    Hang in there. :)

  29. Really good to hear from you Kelly. Please keep up your blogging as you are able. You are an inspiration to me (and did I mention I am not a runner)! I am happy that you are able to do the treadmill. Must help a little. Thank you for the book reviews. I love to read but with 2 kids, that happens rarely. Take care!

  30. You have nothing to be sorry for. Keep taking care of that hand and reading good books. We will be here for you whenever you’re ready!

  31. No apologies necessary. Typing with one hand is tough! And even tougher when you are just overall frustrated. I don’t think there is anyone here who wouldn’t feel the same. Hang in there, post when you can, and take care of yourself :)

  32. Kelly you don’t need to apologize for anything — I look forward to any post/update you give!

  33. Ahhhh – I think that is so AMAZING what you said in your first paragraph about volunteering – so TRUE! Your resilient Kelly and will get through this.

And – oh man I have to read Chelsea’s book then – I LOVE those books or TV shows ;) that cause you to laugh out loud like a total moron by yourself.

Take care. I sent you a Shout-Out on my blog to remind everyone to send you good vibes :)

  34. Gosh I can’t even imagine losing the use of one of my hands! I’m sure that is soooo frustrating. Just take it easy and heal!!

  35. You are SUCH a trooper Kelly!! Im pretty certain that if I only had one working hand I wouldnt be posting, I would be sitting around feeling sorry for myself.

You are amazing for wanting to help people after all of this. So inspiring! :)

  36. Just rest, we are all still here and reading! Don’t you worry about a thing! Take your time, and try to see the good parts of your day. You will feel 100% soon! ~ Take Care

  37. Good to hear from you!! I think your plan to help out those who have lost a limb is so nice. What a great way to turn a bad situation around into a positive thing later on. Thinking of you!! :)

  38. You are a serious trooper! I can’t believe you are blogging, but am so glad you are so that we know how you’re doing. Katie always said you were super positive, but wow, yeah, you really are thinking of how to make the best of it. I’m inspired :)

The book reviews are great. I could use to slow down a bit and do some reading!

  39. Ohh girl! Good to see you back on. Hang in there!

And I totally need to read that London book!

  40. The people who really, really care about you will be here while you recuperate. Take your time.

  41. I’m super impressed with your one handed typing!
    Hope you’re feeling better!

  42. So I have this little boy in my class that just got BOTH of his thumbs cut off in a boating accident!! They managed to reattach them (kind of) but his recovery is GRUELING. He can’t even take himself to the bathroom. The point of all this is that I FEEL for you!! I can’t imagine how hard it is to do things with just one hand. Hang in there, Kelly!

  43. I’m sorry things have been rough. :-/ But please do NOT apologize!! You shouldn’t feel any pressure at all to blog…I can’t imagine how tough it must be when you’re in pain and only have one hand to type with. Just hang in there and focus on healing!! I know it must be really hard, but as always, I’m sending you wishes of a quick recovery. Hope things get better soon.

  44. Keep your spirits high—it will be all better soon!

I love Chelsea. I just got Chelsea Chelsea Bang Bang and am so excited to read it!!

  45. Kelly, you are SO strong…Hang in there…things WILL be better soon!

Thanks for the book recommendations…Chelsea Handler is definitely in a league of her own! Sometimes I watch her show and it always makes me laugh out loud!

  46. Aww hope you’re feeling better soon. It’s ok to take time off. One of the most encouraging things a fellow blogger told me once was “We’ll still be here when you get back.” Very comforting. :)

  47. Feel better! And don’t worry about posting- just focus on you :)

  48. I was wondering if the Chelsea Handler books were good. I’ll give em a try after reading this post! Hang in there and feel better :)

  49. Oh man, I’ve sooo been thinking of you girl. I wish I could help in some way, I know you are having a really rough time…I know I’d feel quite the same. But – even though you say you’ve lost your mojo, you’re still the same ‘ol Kelly based on the “over-intensity” of your PT exercising ;) that made me giggle. hang in there.

  50. Dont’ apologize~ Just keep us posted!!

  51. Glad to hear how you are doing! I think it’s awesome that you want to work with people who have lost a limb. Even though this is a hard injury for you to go through, it is so awesome to see how it is benefiting you. :)

  52. I was thinking of you the other night. Actually, it was when I was cutting a potato with a really sharp knife. I hope you’re doing okay.

  53. Hi! I am new to your blog! Sorry abt the lost mojo- it will either come back or stay away for a while. You just gotta roll with it. Being injured is NEVER fun. It is just a fun sucker! Feel better :)!

  54. You do seem like you are in a better place Kelly and for that I’m glad. Enjoy your books and you are in our minds! :)

  55. Hey honey! Life has been grazy for me so I haven’t been up to date with your blog. I hope you are feeling better!! It must be so hard, but you’ll make it!! Lot’s of love!

  56. Glad to hear from you. I can certainly understand losing your mojo. Just do whatever helps and makes you feel better. Don’t worry about pleasing anyone else.

PS – I read “Are you there Vodka” and thought it was hysterical too. Although agree – maybe not 100% true.

Keep your spirits up and keep healing!

  57. I sure hope that you are feeling better. :) Everyone needs a break sometimes. I know it is a bummer right now, but everyday is one day closer to recovery. You’ll get through this!! I promise. <3

  58. Just wanted to send you some more well wishes.
If you need some mindless entertainment, I am finding The Office to be a fun watch. Hang in.

  59. Hang in there! Sending you happy and healing vibes
    :-)
